Museum Update

As a small nonprofit business, we have struggled for income during the pandemic.  We closed the Museum in mid-March. We typically schedule our school field trips during the Spring.  The fees generated from the field trips supplement our operating expenses.  Due to Covid-19, all of our field trips were canceled.  This winter, we began planning a “Living Waxhaw’s Colonial Settlement Day” to coincide with the Town of Waxhaw’s Kaleidoscope Festival.  This event would have given people a chance to see our colonial cabin and other buildings as they would have been in the 1700s with reenactors.  This historical and fundraising event also had to be canceled.

The Museum does not qualify for any government support during the crisis. However, our utilities and insurance still need to be paid.  We also need cash reserves to start back in June and to help plan our upcoming events:

August 21, 7 to 11 | EvenTide (Party with the Pirates)

August 22, 10 to 4 p.m. | 10th Annual Pirate Day – Fun for all ages

October 24, 7 to 10 | Annual Haunted Walk

November 14, 7 to 9 p.m. | Colonial Tavern Night

On June 6, Butch Kelly has generously agreed to help us by donating the proceeds for a BBQ at the Museum.  Takeout only: $12 per pork plate and $10 per chicken plates.  Preorder available at Eventbrite (museumofthewaxhaws.eventbrite.com). Please come out and support the Museum and enjoy some BBQ!
